Saturday…
We woke up early (try 4am) to catch our flight to Paris. Everything went smoothly other than RyanAir changing our baggage weight requirement from 22 kilos to 15. After some shifts of our luggage we were off. We found our hostel easily, put down our bags and went out for a quick bite to eat (baguette sandwich? Check.) We also went to the grocery store where we bought snacks (baguette and brie. And chocolate.) We rested in our hostel for a little while and then made our way to the Eiffel Tower. I have waited years to see this beautiful building. After six years of French I was more than ready. It was everything I expected and more. We ate our snacks on a bench nearby and just stared at its magnificence.
Raley, an Auburn girl with us, had a friend from Birmingham who has been studying in France since September. She came to meet us and she and some friends showed us around the city. Including Anthony, a native of Paris. They took us sight seeing to see Les Invalides, the Seine, Champs-Elysees, etc. Then we met some more of their French friends out for Chinese. I got to sit next to Vivien and Miva and practice my French. It was so much fun. (Special thanks to Madame Bowen, you are the best teacher, and I even got compliments after all this time) They took us to some clubs where it was fun to dance and experience Parisienne night life but we called it a night fairly early.
Sunday…
We woke up and went straight to Lachaise cemetery where famous people like Oscar Wilde, James Morrison and Chopin are buried. If you go, take note that Franklin D. Roosevelt and George Harrison are just a coincidence. Then we made our way to Notre Dame, so beautiful. Then we walked along the Seine looking at little stands with paintings, old books, postcards, you name it. We reached the Louvre and because it was such a beautiful day we decided not to spend it inside. The Louvre itself is really beautiful and great to see. We then went and layed in a park near the Eiffel Tower to rest and relax a little.
Then we went to the Champs-Elysees to shop and get crepes. The Champs-Elysees was my favorite street in Paris. It was so much fun to walk along and see all the different people and stores. The Louis Vuitton store was so cool and it was fun to go into the gigantic Sephora, complete with a long red carpet entrance. My dinner was a crepe with jambon, frommage e les oefs (ham/cheese/eggs) and Raley and I split a nutella crepe for dessert. Delicious. We went back to our hostel immediately following because we had another early morning on Monday to make our way to Dublin.
