Granny Dot has been in a lot of pain for several years. Each year we have anticipated saying goodbye, but this year it seems it will finally be time.
So it makes me think about what a wonderful and amazing life she has had. Granny Dot is one of the Godliest women I have ever known. I got to spend some time with her last January right before I left for Italy. She encouraged me with 2 Bible verses that had personally spoke to her:
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
She told me that she had been reading in Romans 10 and she had been asking God if she was truly saved when she came across this passage:
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9
She said this reassured her that she was indeed saved.
This is a woman who literally did nothing with her everyday life but glorify God. She read the Bible constantly. She prayed without ceasing. She loved those around her with Christ's perfect love. The only thing she even watched on TV was sermons. And yet she was still recognizing the sin in her life and questioning her salvation. How humbling!
Soon she will be in Heaven. Praising her Savior for all eternity. She will be perfect and complete, without pain or suffering. These verses from Psalms remind me of her...
Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
psalm 73:23-26
Yes, it is sad to lose someone here on earth. My heart breaks that my grandfather is losing his mom. But I praise God for her life that was devoted to knowing and glorifying Him. I pray that all of us can grow to know and love Him as she did. You're an inspiration, Granny Dot.
