So there’s this guy, Jake. He is from Texas and he and Juliette have mutual friends. I met him at the pastor’s conference in Bethany. He stays in Mukono, a small town about an hour from Kampala. All by himself. He is literally the only mzungu that goes to their church. Jake’s church in Texas has partnered with the church in Mukono and helped them build a new church. Sunday was their first Sunday in the new church. So we went to visit. The pastor thanked God for the church. And then he thanked God for the building. It was cool to hear him recognize that the church is not the building itself, but the body of believers.
I loved seeing Mukono and feeling more of a village type setting. We got to take a walk around the town and it was beautiful.
Christy and Tadd are a couple who live practically next door to us. They are christians, but not missionaries. Tadd was working for some military special ops type thing?? It got too dangerous so now they are just living in Uganda. They live with Christy’s brother, Randy, who also works here in Uganda. They have a great house so we go over often for dinner and games.
Christy and Tadd often go and pick up abandoned babies and take them to orphanages because that’s something that takes a long time here. One specific baby they picked up 2 months ago. They had her for about 2 days before they dropped her off at Amani baby’s home. Somehow they fell in love with this little girl and decided they wanted to adopt her. So they began the process. They didn’t seem to expect to get the baby any time soon, but still they began to prepare their hearts and their home. Christy and Tadd didn’t even want to go and visit her because they we afraid they would just take her home right then and there.
Today they went to meet with a lawyer to help them try to speed up the process. Then they had to meet with their probation officer. The next step was going to be to get a hold of the manager of Amani [about 2 hours away] to finish the process. This was huge progress for one day. The next thing they know, that man walks into the door. So everyone they needed to talk to was in the same building at once. That never happens here. The manager signed off on everything and said they could go and get the baby TONIGHT! So cool how God works. So encouraged by this couple. Can’t wait to meet their new baby!!!!
I am headed to Bethany for the week. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
